Paul Weller, Wiltern Theater, September 2, 2008

The Mod faithful came out in droves this week to catch their spiritual icon, Paul Weller, return to L.A. for two nights at The Wiltern. With his long time band members still intact, including Ocean Colour Scene’s guitar wizard Steve Cradock, Weller played selections from his new album 22 Dreams.

It is his ninth solo album, easily surpassing the number produced by either The Jam or The Style Council. Paul still regularly throws in a couple of songs from those earlier groups, including on this night, crowd favorites “That’s Entertainment” and “Shout to The Top.” He has put out so many solo albums now that one has to wonder if there is a Tin Machine in Weller’s near future.

And blame it on egos or artistic differences, but the Weller and From The Jam (Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler) trains roll on, side-by-side, with no talks of a full reunion.
