    Tried a few new guys this year and can still authoritatively and safely say that nobody in town beats the King’s Road house cup, followed closely by Cafe Tropical’s Espresso Con Leche. Chango also still gets a vote just for offering good food and a pleasant vibe. Nice photo of Philippe, though – that gets at least one vote from me based on price, now that you mention it. Somebody’ll probably throw Leche in HP on that list as well.

    There’s a new player in west side farmer’s markets: “Alana’s Coffee Roasting”. This guy does amazing micro-batch roasting and sells for cheap. I know he’s at 18th St/La Cienega and Culver City… maybe others?

    the french press they give you at Griddle Cafe is pretty goddamn good to be honest, i wasn’t really expecting much from there. But yeah, intelligentsia runs shit out here.

    Intelligentsia on Abbot Kinney is AMAZING! Incredible design, gadgets, knowledgeable staff! Puerto Rican guy with tattoos shows how it’s done best. Humble, gracious, and professional. Espresso is seductive, coffee cake muffin by Cake Monkey is sensational, cappuccino was by far the greatest I’ve ever had!

    LA Breakdown:

    Equator = Barf in my mouth!
    Profetta = Room for improvement.
    Luxxe = I’ve had much, much better in Seattle. They claim thats where they get it from.
    Conservatory = Amateurs. You can tell they’re new at it but, good people.
    LAmill = pretty place, good food, poor coffee service.
    Koffeea = ugh, generic at best.
    Urth Cafe = again, good food but, no real good focus on the coffee.
    Peets = Does not even belong on this poll.

    Please add ‘Fix Coffee’ in Elysian Park

    I think, the near death experience of surviving the ride down on Baxter might make the coffee taste even better. But hey, that counts, it’s part of getting the ‘Fix’ experience.

    somebody was taking crazy pills when they put Urth Caffe on this list.

    “Fix Coffee” added, Felonious.

    Herbert, I disagree. The Conservatory is the best in town. They also have the best pastries.
