Gallifrey One: 21st Annual North American “Dr. Who” Convention Kicks Off Today Through Sunday, LAX Marriott Hotel

Gallifrey One, the 21st Annual North American Dr. Who Celebration, at the LAX Marriott kicks off at 10:00 am today and runs through Sunday. Apropos of this being the 21st year, there is a fun Blackjack and casino theme to the festivities.

$75 for the weekend, $35 Friday or Sunday only, $40 Saturday only, $35 ages 12-16; children under 12 free with adult. While online registration is closed, it is not sold out and all comers will get in.

The bulk of the programming takes place on the Marriott’s lower level, in the Imperial Ballroom, the Scottsdale Room and the St. Louis Room (all fine conferencing facilities, speaking from our experience).

Panels topics include: “Star Trek in the Post-Abrams World,” “The Doctor Who Podcast Summit: What Makes a Successful Podcast?,” “How Gay is Your Fandom (Adult Panel, 18+ Only),” and “Working In British Television Today: A Roundtable.”

The day-end party on Friday night will be at “The Gamble With Time” Casino and Karaoke Bar, while on Saturday night, DJ Vasilios Alagiannis keeps it grooving till dawn at “The Vegas in Space Disco.” Indeed.

While he won’t be in attendance, there’s sure to be much discussion about the new 26-year old Doctor, Matt Smith who takes over this year. Unfortunately, late word has come down that Sarah Sutton (“Nyssa”) will not be able to attend. Many are still scheduled to appear: Katy Manning, Louise Page, Georgia Moffett, Tommy Knight, Graeme Harper, Anneke Wills, Frazer Hines, Deborah Watling, Andrew Hayden-Smith, Nicholas Briggs, Bob Baker, John Levene, Phil Ford, Colin Teague, Alice Troughton and many more.
