Pete Townshend Joining Rachel Fuller @ Troubadour This Friday; Limited Tickets May Surface

HEADS UP
Rachel Fuller presents Pete Townshend with Friends @ Troubadour Fri Nov 7
All of the Best Buy charity tickets are completely sold out at this point, but according to Pollstar, a limited number of tickets for this Friday’s Rachel Fuller/ Pete Townshend Troub gig will be released this Thursday, November 6. That’s two days after you will have performed your civic duty at your polling place, mind you.
We should probably also note at this time: This show is billed as Pete Townshend And Friends, and The Who is playing Nokia the very next night. The Troub is keeping mum thus far and there’s nothing to click on TM to date, but keep fingers crossed if you didn’t catch the duo at Hotel Cafe (or SXSW) last year; maybe you can still work some magic Thursday and, come Friday, hear Pete utter those words you long to hear, “It is great to be back here at the Troubadour, the place where Daryl Hall, John Oates, Tom Petty, Ringo Starr and myself all performed countless times as one big, bloated, not-yet-supergroup when we first came to Los Angeles. Let’s bring them all out on stage now, shall we?”
UPDATE:
Buy tickets here Thursday at 1pm.
» Pete Townshend Is ‘In The Attic’ (Pollstar)
» Pete and the Raconteurs perform “The Seeker” (Stereogum)
» Pete and Rachel perform at the Grove (Your favorite mall) (!?) (Youtube)

Janes Addiction @ La Cita, October 23: Pictures And Video
By
Ryan - Friday October 24th 2008
Whoops! That should read, “Pictures and video wanted.” Who’s holding? Please remit. I found three reviews of the show this morning (they follow), and they aren’t telling me a thing:
I just walked down to Ye Old Taco House Numero Uno to grab a burrito and was greeted by a line of people. “WTF?” I thought, “Did some film crew just get off work and everyone got a wild hair up their ass to come get a cheap burrito?” I would quickly learn the answer to that question was, “No.”
(Downtown Liberation Front)
Tonight the original lineup of Janes Addiction is playing the tiny ass downtown mexican bar “La Cita”, known mostly for it’s post-raver neon hoody wearing banger electro coke-sniffing hipster parties. Sweet.
Good luck getting anywhere near the venue, as it is likely to be a Hollywood douche scene for at least a 3 block radius. But if you do, take pictures and tell me about it.
(Make out club)
Anyone get in tonight? I totally got shut down. I spoke to one guy who had been waiting in line since 3pm today and didn’t get in. That’s what happens when a supposedly secret show get leaked on indie 103.1… The bar holds less than 400 people — must have been a great show. I hope they go on tour now.
(Yelp)
UPDATE – 850am
K-Ron 75 is first on the scene over at Flickr, including the obligatory set list shot.
UPDATES – 3pm
Reviews and bitchy comments galore: Kevin Bronson, Califaudio, more Flickr photos, Dave Navarro blogs it (Did I mention? Those who went to Stereolab last night and turned on Showtime after arriving home at a sensible hour (1am) also saw Dave Navarro, rebroadcast, hosting the red carpets at the AVN Awards in Vegas)

New Trader Joe’s Taking Shape in UCLA Westwood Village Area
By
Victor - Tuesday September 09th 2008

The sign itself is modest, muted behind tinted glass, belying the certain impact the contents of its message are soon to reak upon a neighborhood and retail district. It is a simple banner, somewhere between the sort you might make at Kinko’s for a birthday party and one you might hang over an aircraft carrier deck to celebrate the victorious end of the Iraq war, bearing four words in happy fonts that simultaneously elicit giddy anticipation from prospective shoppers while striking the fear of God into the very hearts of Westwood Village food and drug retailers: Trader. Joe’s. Coming. Soon.

The Wesley Snipes Jail Factor: Will He Do Time?
By
Ryan - Thursday April 24th 2008
Wesley Snipes is being sentenced for tax evasion today. He faces up to three years in jail and a massive fine. Will he do time?
In the defendant Wesley Snipes, the court is presented with a wealthy, famous and inveterate tax scofflaw. If ever a tax offender was deserving of being held accountable to the maximum extent for his criminal wrongdoing, Snipes is that defendant. (Govt sentencing rec via CNN)

My Bloody Valentine Playing Pitchfork Festival 2008? (UPDATE: Probably Not)
By
Ryan - Tuesday April 22nd 2008
ITEM: All Tomorrow’s Parties is promoting the first My Bloody Valentine shows in London this June. (Daily Swarm via BV)
ITEM: MBV will headline the ATP Festival in upstate New York in September. (ibid.)
ITEM: ATP promoters have recently teamed with Pitchfork for “Don’t Look Back” nights at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago. Said nights feature bands such as Public Enemy, Mission of Burma and Sonic Youth performing entire albums. (ibid; P4k)
ITEM: P4k’s Friday, July 18 lineup:
Pitchfork Music Festival and All Tomorrow’s Parties present “Don’t Look Back”
Public Enemy performing It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
Mission of Burma performing Vs.
+ one more to be announced (P4k)
Somebody over at Pitchfork either doesn’t seem to think this’ll happen, or is playing coy. I say do the math. Take it away, but responsibly so.
***UPDATE, 4.25: While I am (arguably foolishly) adamant that surprises could still happen, the third Friday lineup has now been revealed: SEBADOH performing Bubble and Scrape

Flight of the Conchords @ Coachella?
By
Ryan - Thursday April 17th 2008
Are you as tired of Coachella speculation as I’ve intended for you to be yet? If not give me time, but if so, take comfort in the fact that we’ve a 100% Coachella-free baconwrapped hot dog article hitting the stands later today.
RIGHT NOW, THOUGH: Today’s rampant speCoachellulation: Flight of the Conchords. They’re scheduled for an instore appearance at Amoeba Records on April 24 – the day before the festival – yet their official Los Angeles gigs aren’t until the end of May – at the Orpheum – a Goldenvoice venue. Do the math. Having seen Tenacious D appear between the Strokes and the Foo Fighters in Indio back in ‘02, I’m responsibly predicting a similar surprise this year. Discuss.

DEVELOPING: Coachella Poster-Makers Shore Up Gaping Hole In Official Coachella Poster
By
Ryan - Wednesday April 16th 2008
The hole-in-the-poster which at one time led to rampant very little speculation as to what new headliner might fill its gap has now been officially shored up over at Coachella.com, with the unpronounceable-in-any-tongue symbol of Prince pointing menacingly now toward the surname of Friday’s headliner. (Is that thing loaded?) Behold!:

Jane’s Addiction Original Lineup Reunion Set for El Rey, Coachella?
By
Victor - Wednesday April 16th 2008
Long the lone hold out for a complete Jane’s reunion, Eric Avery has relented and will re-join the band for a special NME awards show to be held at the El Rey a week from today, April 23. They are receiving the NME’s prestigious Godlike Genius Award that has been previously awarded to the likes of The Clash, New Order, Primal Scream and Manic Street Preachers. With this news coming on the heels of yesterday’s Mötley Crüe tour news, the nation’s eyeliner supply is sure to take a devestating hit, so be advised to stock up now, ladies.
Given the timing of the announcement, it would hardly be irresponsible to speculate that Jane’s Addiction could possibly play Coachella, which begins the very next night. In fact, it would irresponsible to not speculate this eventuality, given the circumstantial evidience. So, being the responsible types that we are, we are in fact speculating here regarding the medium-to-high probability that the reunited Jane’s Addiction may likely perform at Coachella possibly.
