The Grizzly Bear show at Spaceland was last week.
Thanks for the correction, Joe. Music interns: you’re all getting incompletes.
What about The Donnas at the Dodgers Rally at Citywalk today? I’m surprised there’s nothing about the Rally in Losanjealous….
I got free tickets from Losanjealous for a show at the Wiltern on Friday. Now the show (Guster)was somewhat tepid, but I could enjoy it for what it was worth only because it was FREE! Yay. And there was this crazy drummer who eschewed drumsticks for what I’m sure turned out to be a raw, bloodied drumming hand. Cool.
Losanjealous.com: You rock!
Oscar, we knew about it but we can’t with good conscious promote anything happening at Citywalk. And it’s more rally than concert. You’re not contemplating going to this are you?
A lot of people don’t know this, but a lot of free UCLA shows are only open to those with valid ID. But when a show is at “Westwood Plaza”, like Ladytron and CSS, then it’s outsidde (in front of the student center and bear statue) and anyone who walks by can enjoy. And best of all, since it’s at noon, there’s maybe 10-40 people at one of these free outdoor concerts, so you can get up close. But it’s not free when Westwood parking is such a ripoff.
you forgot Free Moral Agents @ The Smell on Wed. 10-04-2006

REPRESENT
Asobi Seksu @ The Echo on Friday…why isn’t this listed?
More like SHITTYwalk. HA!
And I can’t wait to see LADYTRON in bright noon daylight at UCLA while I eat my Rubio’s tacos inbetween Comm 10 and Bio 40.
James–thanks for the tip.
Bort–Don’t forget metered parking. 25 cents for every two and a half minutes. And check again, Asobi Seksu was always on the list.
Joe Bruin–indeed. And nice job UCLA campus events concerts crew on some solid bookings.
I think they would have better off having the Rally @ the Dodgers Stadium parking lot. They had it two years ago at The Grove though. I don’t know how Shittywalk took the title for place to hold rallies for Angelenos. That’s corporate america for ya!
Strange that there’s rally for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Universal CityWalk — an area that’s technically not in the city of Los Angeles.
What? List the Killers TV show taping @ Jimmy Kimmel but not Jet’s taping this Friday? harsh…. ;)
Are you sure that you need UCLA ID to attend the shows?
I have been to at least 4 concerts in the past at the Cooperage and at the Westwood Plaza
and I am not a UCLA student.
Is there some new restriction I don’t know about?
The ID thing is enforced for certain Coop shows, especially when there is an expectation of drawing a capacity crowd. You would not have gotten into the Coop to see Franz Ferdinand a couple of years back without a student ID.
Bort,
Have you tried the parking structure on Broxton? It’s much less of a ripoff. Most concerts in LA are at some place where parking is a ripoff, at least the UCLA noontime shows are free.
Sam, it depends on where the concert is. Cooperage and Westwood Plaza shows never have ID checks, not really feasible. But if it’s a free show in the big auditorium, you have to have ID to get a wristband, that’s what happened for The Walkmen.
UCLA has historically been bad at promoting their free concerts…Franz Ferdinand, Broken Social Scene, and Bloc Party all did free shows while I was a student, and I didn’t find out about them until long after the fact.
Tony Bruin, so they did use ID checks for that Cooperage FF show? Figures. I only went to the Xiu Xiu cooperage show and there were no ID checks, but I guess that’s way different.
And what’s the deal with Carlos D doing a DJ set at Detour? When the festival was first announced, some list of performers and which stages they’d be on was spreading all over the place, and Blonde Redhead and Carlos D were listed, despite not being on the official lineup. Well, Blonde Redhead was soon added, but no Carlos. Hmm.
Yeah, having a DJ in a band is kinda nu-metally, no?

Bort, I’m pretty sure you’ll never see Carlos D spinning at the same time that the rest of the Armani Gestapo are playing their instruments, thereby evading the stigma of nü-ness.
…and to think I was just about to accuse Borat of being (MV)Pete…
So where does it say that Carlos D is DJing!? Whoa, I got the memo late on that one =P
I agree, Jeannette, I can’t wait to see Borat, too. Looks to be the only thing worthwhile in theaters since Idiocracy. Since I haven’t seen American Hardcore yet.
