Murder City Devils Live @ Henry Fonda, February 17 & 18, 2009
I am going to do everything in my power to not make this concert review a full-on love letter to Spencer Moody, but I won’t lie, it’s going to be difficult. For two nights this week, The Murder City Devils took over the Music Box and reminded you exactly why you asked Santa for this reunion every Christmas for the last few years. Here are some random thoughts from both nights.

Last-Minute Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas
So right now you are probably wondering what to get your significant other for Valentine’s Day. Roses and candy might work for some, but if I was your sweetheart, I’d ask for one of the following:
- A kegerator
- The Murder City Devils Feather Bed Whiskey Blanket Box Set. Apparently this limited edition bad boy is only available on their February 2009 tour. You get all four LP’s reissued on white vinyl, plus stencils, photos, posters, and each set has a hand painted number. Completists and elitists, eat your heart out.
Lucky for us, The Murder City Devils will be in town next week, Feb. 17th and 18th at the Music Box. You really should already have your tickets, but if you slept on this, although their website is saying sold out I just ran a search on Ticketmaster and there may be a few remaining tickets left. (You can also try to win the box set at http://www.themurdercitydevils.com/contest/.)
So, yes: Maybe the concert comes too late for a Valentine’s Day gift, but you can always make your sweetie an homemade IOU with Spencer Moody’s face on it. Just don’t make one of those coupon books with “good for one foot rub” or “redeemable for a hug”. Those are creepy.

Fucked Up @ Fucked Up: Echoplex, February 6, 2009

I was warned that if I went see Fucked Up at the Echoplex, large male nudity would be on the menu. I figured it couldn’t get any worse than Har Mar or Tim from Les Savy Fav, so I was game. I was ready for the skin show, but not so much for the trip back to high school. Circle pits, a male dominated crowd, and more pairs of converse than you can count. The night was even complete with a teenage couple that continuously made out next to me, no matter what band was playing. Who needs a high school reunion with a night like this!

Regarding Indie 103’s Demise
Note from ed: We’d asked veteran (and venerable) KXLU morning DJ McAllister to sound off on Indie 103’s apparent demise today. She responded with aplomb, fresh off her Thursday morning drive time shift no less. Without further ado…
Apparently Indie 103.1 is over. I have no idea if this rumor is true because I don’t have an iphone or twitter or a carrier pigeon that keeps me posted on these kinds of things, but for right now let’s consider it true. Losanjealous asked for my official response as a KXLU dj, so here it is:
