Losanjealous Benevolent Society, 5/9/08
By
Ryan - Friday May 09th 2008
Mysterious, sporadic, categorically unreliable as a weekend guide - not unlike your cat in that aspect - the Losanjealous Benevolent Society compiles strange happenings and fun events in LA; the more bizarre, the better. If you’re organizing or know of an event you think belongs on the list, send the info to tips@losanjealous.com.
Today’s installment gets one entry and one entry only. No plans Saturday? Please for the love of God somebody go do this and blog it for us. It could be great. It could also be terrible. We are counting on you to tell us which.

The photos and videos will be screened at the Egyptian with the audience voting on the best ones, followed by the screening of Midnight Madness, and then a Q&A with the film’s co-director, David Wechter.

By
Ryan - Thursday April 03rd 2008
Mysterious, sporadic, occasionally ludicrous - not unlike your eighth grade Wednesday hot lunch - the Losanjealous Benevolent Society compiles strange happenings and fun events in LA; the more bizarre, the better. If you’re organizing or know of an event you think belongs on the list, send the info to tips@losanjealous.com.
N/B: Hooray! Today’s edition hits the stands a day early thanks to the overabundance of foolish/interesting things taking place tonight.

SUNDAY (Easter Evening)
Vosotros CD Release Party @ FOUND
Vosotros is a music project/label spawned by Gabe Noel and John Gillilan. For the past year they’ve assembled friends & bands, once a month, into a Little Tokyo venue for a project dubbed “The Lazy Susan”, the idea being that if you bring three or four disparate artists into one venue for one night, you get a sort of Lazy Susan effect. Got it? Got it. Sunday’s listening party features a CD based on Gabe’s own monthly collaborations. The project is thoughtfully packaged in biodegradable material and rests easy on your ears while still challenging them. (Read: KPFK ready.) Sunday, 1903 Hyperion Ave in the ‘Lake; 7pm.

A Friendly, Non-Intrusive Yaz July 2008 Reunion Mini-Tour Presale Reminder
By
Ryan - Thursday March 06th 2008
Reminder: YAZ @ Orpheum general presale begins today, so do plan ahead. The fan club presale for both dates began Wednesday and remains active today. Were you there at the bell? Mind you, this is no ordinary, run-of-the-mill 48-year-old bald guy punching a Casio - this is VINCE CLARKE. With ALISON MOYET no less! Throughout his lengthy, at times Casio-laden career, Vince has been blessed with some of the greatest vocalists on earth. How exactly do you get the greatest vocalists on earth, if you play a Casio keyboard? You play it better than anybody else on the planet goddammit. Again, regular presale begins today at 10am; general sale begins this weekend. Don’t sleep on it. I didn’t.
PRESALE PASSWORD: APPLE (beginning 10am)
FAN CLUB PASSWORD: Look elsewhere, we respect fan clubs.

Our Dumb World Editors @ Skylight Books Saturday
By
Ryan - Friday January 25th 2008
The editors of Our Dumb World: The Onion’s Atlas of The Planet Earth will be at Skylight Books on Vermont this coming Saturday (1/26) at 5pm. If you haven’t yet had the chance to peruse the book, I can attest that it’s drop dead funny and, unfortunately, spot-on accurate more often than not (ok ok - relatively so). Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime chance to (a) have your breastbone signed, (b) monopolize the Q&A session with your inane questions.
