Tom Petty Reuniting Mudcrutch for 2008 Cali Tour; Playing Troubadour in April
By
Ryan - Thursday March 20th 2008
This Just In: Tom Petty will be touring with his original pre-Heartbreakers vessel Mudcrutch in a matter of weeks. He’d mentioned the reunion to various outlets during Superbowl interviews; now it’s official, they’re dropping a “debut” album (after disbanding back in the 70s) and coming out to California for a few dates. Album will drop April 29. (preorder)

Ringo Starr @ House of Blues Friday (1/25): Win Tickets Now
By
Ryan - Monday January 21st 2008
LOSANJEALOUS:: Ringo Starr (of THE BEATLES) and Dave Stewart (of EURYTHMICS and, more recently, “A Sound Map of Tom Petty’s Los Angeles”)* will join forces this Friday afternoon at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip, an event which will surely be marked as historic on someone or something’s LA Sound Map at some point in the not-too-distant future. Backed by a full band, the duo will perform a FREE short set celebrating the January 15th release of Ringo’s latest album Liverpool 8, co-produced by Stewart on Capitol/EMI. Showtime is at 1pm; the event will also be livecast from Ringo’s website at http://www.ringostarr.com. Though the show is free, admittance is of course limited to the capacity of the House of Blues. Fear not; there are ways inside the House. Losanjealous is giving away “guaranteed admission” entry passes, allowing unfettered access to the former Beatle’s gig. Winners can bypass the general admission line, cozy on up to the venue’s presumably shorter “Already Got My Passes” line and ensure a spot inside. (See: How To Get Inside below…)
How To Get Inside
Including our own contest, following are the various known methods for gaining admittance to Friday’s lunchtime bearded-Beatle-and-Eurythmic-inclusive show at the House of Blues:

Reader Picks ‘08: Los Angeles Sound Maps
By
Ryan - Friday January 18th 2008
As previously noted (does 30 minutes ago really merit a “previously”? -ed) the LA Weekly lovingly “sound mapped” Tom Petty this week. The question must be asked: Whose map would we like to see next?
Who would we like to see soundmapped next?
VOTE AGAIN
Add a choice if need be. Vote as often as you like. Also: Have a great weekend.

Praising Tom Petty’s Los Angeles
By
Ryan - Friday January 18th 2008
Kudos to Daphne Carr and the LA Weekly today for the cover story “A Sound Map of Tom Petty’s Los Angeles”. (More of these, please!) The article spans 38 anecdote-loaded locations significant to Tom’s career and his writing, all of them in and around Los Angeles. Sample:
32. Charo’s house in Beverly Hills. Petty’s family lived in the house of the former wife of Xavier Cugat, Charo, while rebuilding his house after the fire. On Thanksgiving, Petty drove to the Sav-On in Beverly Hills to pick up some baseball mitts for a game he wanted to have, and Jeff Lynne — the producer, former ELO member and future Traveling Wilbury — pulled up beside him at a red light. Thus began their working relationship.
This is precisely the sort of article that inspires me to keep living in Los Angeles: One day Jeff Lynne will pull up next to me at a red light, locks blowing in the wind. And that will have been the beginning of the Lynne-inclusive phase of my career. They’ve also included some gorgeous artwork — dig that map by Scott Gursky — that they’re offering in PDF format. Want a wall version? Take it straight to Kinko’s but don’t laminate until Gursky gets a chance to sign it. It’s Friday, so if you haven’t read the whole thing yet, you’ve got time.
