Blogs Silent On Beckham-To-Los Angeles News

By - Thursday January 11th 2007

Beckham

The deafening silence of indifference has enveloped the Los Angeles blogosphere this gray morning on the matter of the imminent arrival of the arguably the biggest sports star on the planet to our fine city’s Galaxy MLS team. Since the story broke this morning around 7:15 a.m. P.S.T., incredibly, not one Los Angeles blog has mentioned story. Either this is an indicator of the lack of local popularity of soccer or, quite possibly, is a hopeful sign of a newfound maturity on the part of local blogs, who have this time shunned the all too easy tabloid-style storylines of huge sports contracts, Hollywood seduction and Spice Girl allusions. Whichever the case, I applaud them.

CORRECTION: Sean Bonner broke this story at 7:52 a.m. P.S.T. I regret the oversight.

CORRECTION 2: LAist has now updated with their take. Really, please just forget this whole post.

CORRECTION 3: Yao Ming is the biggest sports star in the world. Both literally and figuratively.

now all they need to do is get rid of the ridiculous galaxy name and change the team name to something more respectable and in line with the tradition of football(soccer).

    Los Angeles FC maybe?

same goes for some of the other teams..houston dynamo? kansas city wizards?

Dude… in the 80s there was a MISL America and they had the WORST team names ever.

    Dallas SIDEKICKS
    Los Angeles LAZERS
    Baltimore BLAST
    Chicago STING

    Oh… just the worst.

I was a huge LA Lazers fan in my soccer hey day.. I can still remember going to games at the Forum and sitting on the glass. My glory days of Lazers soccer was the time my AYSO team was selected to play during a pregame for them. I actually netted a hat trick.
Sorry to burst anyones bubble but for some of us going to thoe games represent some good memories. Especially when you look at ticket prices for the other sports teams in LA…
Not to mention that MISL Soccer was faster paced and more exciting then most outdoor games played today… REST IN PEACE MISL>>>LA LAZERS.
